Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth provides care for colon, rectal and anal cancers, Crohn’s Disease, ulcerative colitis, and anorectal disorders including polyps, hemorrhoids, fistula and anal fissure. Our team specializes in minimally invasive approaches, including laparoscopic minimally invasive colon and rectal surgery and transanal minimally invasive surgery for the small bowel, colon and rectum.

We offer treatment for a variety of cancerous and non-cancerous conditions affecting the colon and rectum, including:

Benign Diseases (Diverticulitis, Rectal Prolapse, Fecal Incontinence, Hemorrhoids, Anal Fistulae, Fissures)

Benign diseases of the colon, rectum and anus include diverticulitis, rectal prolapse, fecal incontinence, hemorrhoids, anal fistulae, and fissures. These health issues can cause significant quality of life issues. The first line of treatment is medication, but some patients may need surgery. Our team will develop a plan that will help provide you with the best pathway to a cure.

Colorectal Cancer

The team at BID Plymouth is subspecialized in Colorectal Surgery and performs safe and comprehensive surgeries to remove all of the cancer, without leaving any cells behind. With extensive training and experience in colorectal surgery, we do everything possible to reconnect your bowel in order to avoid a permanent ostomy bag (a bag that collects stool).

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis)

Although surgery is not usually the first treatment option for Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis, sometimes surgery is unavoidable. Working closely with Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth’s Gastroenterology (GI) practice, our specialists complete a comprehensive assessment of your inflammatory bowel disease and come up with the least invasive IBD treatment plan.

Insurance Referrals: Please remember that you may be required by your insurance company to obtain a referral from your primary care physician ahead of time.

Co-payments: If your insurance plan requires a co-payment at the date of service, please be prepared to pay your co-payment during the check-in process.

Please bring the following to your appointment:

• Your insurance card
• Your co-pay, if applicable
• A list of medications that you are currently taking
