Radiation Oncology at the Jordan Club Cancer Center offers state-of-the-art radiation therapy right where you live and work. Our team of physicians, nurses and therapists provide the highest quality of care in a warm, comfortable environment.
An Integrated Approach to Cancer Care
When you receive your treatment at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth, you are under the care of a coordinated, multidisciplinary team that includes your radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, surgical specialist, and primary care physician. This intimate working relationship and instant communication helps facilitate the best treatment.
Our expanded, ACR accredited Radiation Oncology Center offers both Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), 3-D treatment planning, and real-time software to track the movement of tumors during treatment. This means that we can accurately target tumors and destroy cancer cells more precisely while preserving the healthy surrounding tissue.
"We are proud to announce that our Center recently received accreditation from the American College of Radiology."
Clinical Quality and Safety
ACR Accreditation
Our Radiation Oncology Program was awarded a three-year term of accreditation as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). ACR, awards accreditation to radiation oncology programs for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the team and the adequacy of radiation therapy equipment. Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital–Plymouth is the only hospital-based ACR accredited program on the South Shore.
RFID Technology
In August 2011 our Radiation Oncology Center became the second program in the country and first program on the South Shore to implement RFID technology into an oncology electronic medical record. RFID is the same technology used in toll tags and for asset tracking in a variety of industries. Each patient wears an identification card that is implanted with an RFID chip. As soon as a patient walks in the clinic, he or she is greeted by our staff and our computer system, which immediately performs an electronic check-in. When he or she enters the room where radiation treatment is administered, the patient's chart and customized treatment plans are automatically opened and ready for use by the radiation therapist. No other patient's chart can be opened or utilized while the patient is in the treatment room. Through automation of patient queuing, treatment chart access and treatment delivery verification, RFID technology ensures the right treatment is delivered to the right patient every time.
