About Our Cardiac Recovery Program
The outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program at BID Plymouth has been awarded program certification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The rehabilitation program helps patients recover from cardiac events such as a heart attack or bypass surgery, to reach their maximum physical and emotional potential. Through education, exercise, counseling and support, our caring and experienced staff helps patients and their families to cope with the demands and challenges of cardiac disease.
We also offer an Outpatient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program, that helps patients with chronic lung diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis or asthma, to increase their activity level, control shortness of breath and improve their overall quality of life.
Education
Patients and families are educated on topics ranging from heart disease, stress management and health behavior changes, to dietary management, weight control and smoking cessation. Every effort is made to accommodate scheduling needs and videotapes are available to loan to family members who are unable to attend an outpatient session.
Exercise
The patient and the cardiac rehabilitation staff work with the attending physician to develop a personalized treatment plan for each participant. The supervised exercise program consists of warm ups, aerobic exercise and a cooldown.
