Visitor Guidelines During COVID-19 Pandemic
Beth Israel Lahey Health has taken a number of steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in order keep our patients and staff safe. Please review our updated visitor policy below. Additional COVID-19 resources, including information on testing and vaccination, can be found here.
As COVID-19 cases have declined in the community and hospitalizations due to COVID-19 remain low, BID Plymouth is returning to more conventional guidance for inpatient visitors and patient escorts in ambulatory and procedural areas. The following guidance is effective Thursday, April 14.
Inpatient Visitor Age
The minimum age for visitors to inpatient units has been lowered to 12 years of age. Younger children who are without symptoms or exposure to COVID-19 may visit a hospitalized parent or sibling.
We welcome back siblings of the newborn to visit their inpatient postpartum mothers during designated visiting hours. The siblings must be masked in accordance with CDC guidelines upon entry to the building; all children 2 years and older must be masked. A designated adult visitor must be present, and masks must remain on during the entire visit.
Patient Escorts in Ambulatory/Procedural Areas
Patients are now allowed no more than two (2) escorts beyond essential escorts to accompany them to ambulatory appointments and procedures. Escorts must be without COVID-19 symptoms or exposure.
An essential escort is a special type of patient escort who is critical to patient care and has been permitted throughout the pandemic.
