Weight Loss Surgery
Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital- Plymouth (BID-Plymouth) and Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton (BID-Milton) bring high-quality, nationally accredited bariatric (weight loss) surgery to the greater Plymouth community.
Weight loss surgery can be an effective treatment for individuals who struggle with their weight and found that diet and exercise did not provide long-term weight loss. Not only can weight loss surgery lead to significant and permanent weight loss, it can also result in better overall health and a new outlook on life.
Our widely respected weight loss surgeons are members of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Surgery and are on the Harvard Medical School faculty. They all have completed advanced fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery.
To qualify for weight loss surgery, you must have a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or greater with an obesity related health condition, such as diabetes or high blood pressure, or a BMI of 40 or greater with no obesity related condition. Use this online calculator to determine your BMI.
Most pre-surgery evaluations and tests as well as aftercare appointments are scheduled at BID-Plymouth. Some pre-surgery evaluations and the actual operations are performed at BID-Milton, which is nationally accredited as an MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center, the highest level of accreditation possible.
To enroll in the program, you must attend an in-person information session or watch a full information session online. To see upcoming information sessions or to watch a session online, go to bidmilton.org/weightlossnow.
