For patients with a diagnosis of prostate cancer, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth’s Prostate Cancer Program offers patients the most advanced treatment options south of Boston. The multi-disciplinary program provides patients with a team-centered approach to care.
Together, the team has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
In addition to extensive surgical and oncology treatment options, BID-Plymouth offers SpaceOAR as part of radiation therapy treatment to minimize the risk of side effects. SpaceOAR hydrogel is an option for men who undergo radiation treatment for prostate cancer. It acts as a spacer providing space between the rectum and the prostate, making it much less likely that the rectum is exposed to radiation. This allows for less chance of a reduction in quality of life as it pertains to bowel, urinary and sexual side effects.
Please call our radiation therapy department for more information at 508-830-2575. BID-Plymouth also offers PET/CT imaging specifically for men with suspected recurrent prostate cancer based on a rising PSA. Talk with your health care provider as to whether this scan is an option for you.
