In June, the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth Board of Directors named Norwell, Massachusetts resident Kevin Coughlin as President & CEO of the hospital. Coughlin brings more than 25 years of experience across community hospitals, academic medical centers and health care systems.
He joined BID-Plymouth in 2014 as Senior Vice President of System Development and served as the hospital’s Interim President and CEO since October 2016.
“We are delighted to have Kevin assume the role of President and CEO,” said Clark Hinkley, Chair of the Board of Directors of BID-Plymouth. “During his tenure as Senior Vice President of System Development and most recently as Interim President, Kevin’s steady hand, vision and ability to bring people together have been tremendous assets to the hospital. Kevin is a talented leader who will help us continue to move the organization forward for the patients and communities we serve.”
As Senior Vice President at BID-Plymouth, Coughlin led the hospital’s growth strategy, as well as the hospital’s network of 300 physicians and ambulatory services. Under his leadership, employed physician revenue grew more than twofold over three years, which was instrumental to advancing the hospital’s strong financial footing.
Coughlin was also instrumental in working with the hospital’s medical staff to develop and launch a Hospital-Physician Compact to further advance the organization. Coughlin plans to continue his efforts to work with the hospital’s physicians and with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center to further enhance BID-Plymouth’s presence and reputation in the community.
“As part of the BID system, I look forward to continuing our community focus and working to provide our patients with the best health care in the region,” Coughlin said.
“Our community hospitals are essential to Beth Israel Deaconess’ mission of providing high quality, lower cost care close to home,” said Kevin Tabb, MD, CEO of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. “Kevin is a proven leader with extensive experience in strategy, operations and finance, and a strong commitment to the Plymouth community. Kevin was chosen after a vigorous and comprehensive national search that confirmed he was the most qualified candidate to lead BID-Plymouth. We look forward to Kevin’s ongoing contributions to BID-Plymouth and the BID system.”
Coughlin earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Providence College and a master’s degree in administration from Boston College. He lives in Norwell with his family. He also serves as a member of the Board of the Plymouth YMCA.
