Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth (BID-Plymouth) will celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day on Thursday, June 22 from 4-7 pm. Cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends and healthcare professionals are invited to unite to show that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful and productive. This is BID-Plymouth’s 8th annual Cancer Survivors Day; last year more than 350 survivors, family members and friends attended the event.
“Join us to celebrate the members of our community who are surviving cancer,” says Lesley Cunningham, Cancer Center Director at BID-Plymouth. “You will find a celebration filled with joy, camaraderie, hope, compassion, faith and love as we honor cancer survivors for their strength and courage”.
It is a celebration for everyone, whether you're a cancer survivor, a family member, friend, or medical professional. This event provides an opportunity for all people living with a history of cancer to connect with each other, celebrate milestones, and recognize the healthcare providers, family and friends who have supported them along the way. "A 'survivor' is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life," according to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation. “Despite the adversities, cancer survivors face each day with courage and dignity and serve as an inspiration to all of us,” says Cunningham.
This year’s local Cancer Survivors Day celebration of life will be held at BID-Plymouth, Obery Street entrance, South Parking Lot, under the tent on Thursday, June 22 from 4-7pm. Jordan Rich, of the former WBZ-AM’s Jordan Rich Show, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies. Special guest, Joe Andruzzi, former New England Patriots Offensive Guard, three times Super Bowl Champion, Cancer Survivor and Co-founder of the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, will be in attendance.
The event includes good food, raffles, door prizes, chair massages, musical entertainment by Despite Dwight, featuring Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center Medical Director Matt Koomey, MD, on drums, and much more. Call 508.830.2783 to register. The event is free and open to the public. Visit www.ncsd.org for more information about National Cancer Survivors Day.
