The BirthPlace

BirthPlace Pediatrics Continuing Care Nursery Lactation Center Family Education

Welcome to Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth’s BirthPlace, expert care in a community hospital.

Our mission is to safely facilitate your memorable birthing experience.

What to Expect at the BirthPlace:

  • Our board certified Obstetricians team with our certified nurse midwives (CNM) and registered nurses (RN) to care for women with both low and high risk pregnancies.
  • We encourage you to share your plans, fears, and expectations about the birth process with our staff.
  • We encourage personal choice in pain management for labor and delivery. We offer natural childbirth, IV pain medication and epidural anesthesia. Our staff focus on how you are coping with labor pain and offer management techniques based on level of coping rather than level of pain.
  • Tours are offered once a month on the third (3rd) Saturday of each month from 10:00am to 11:30am. The tours are offered on the half hour. You are also welcome to call the BirthPlace at 508-830-2230 to schedule a visit.
  • Visiting Hours are open. We have no set visiting hours. We work with our families to make sure that their visitors will be welcomed.

Private LDRP Suites

  • There are twelve private LDRP suites on the BirthPlace offering a warm, supportive environment. Usually the labor, delivery, recovery, & postpartum care occurs in the same room.
  • After delivery, the equipment is tucked out of sight to create a cozy atmosphere for you and your baby to bond.
  • The BirthPlace practices couplet care, in which mother and baby are cared for by the same nurse. The benefit to couplet care is that your nurse can coordinate your care with the care of your baby, as well as teaching opportunities.

Well Newborn Nursery

  • BID-Plymouth does not have a well-baby nursery because we encourage babies to room in with moms. Rooming in has many benefits to moms and babies: it  helps moms understand their babies’ feeding cues, it gives moms more confidence with caring for their babies, lowers stress for both moms and babies, and milk comes in sooner to moms who room in.

Operating Room

  • State of the art operating room within the BirthPlace, readily available, if needed.
  • Specialized staff is on call 24 hours a day in the event that a cesarean section is needed.
