Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Plymouth’s Breast Center (BID-Plymouth) hosted it’s fourth biennial Women’s Health Symposium on Thursday, October 25 from 6-8 pm at Indian Pond Country Club. Over 395 women were in attendance to hear guest speaker Kelley Tuthill, former WCVB TV reporter, author, and cancer survivor share her personal story about her diagnosis, challenges and her successful recovery while finding a balance between career and a family. Other speakers included BID-Plymouth’s breast surgeons, Dr. Robyn Sachs and Dr. Kerry Bennett who discussed the importance of breast health, prevention and the latest in treatment.
“We enjoy hosting this event for women in the community and providing cancer success stories alongwith educating women on the latest in breast health”, says Lesley Cunningham, Director of Cancer Services. “Kelley Tuthill and the physicians spoke about issues that affect women of all ages and provided a forum to come together to celebrate and learn.”
We received great feedback from the attendees, such as “I was overwhelmed by the entire event. It was amazing, powerful, beautiful and educational”, another wrote “This is my first time attending this event. I felt the sisterhood! I am a 20-year survivor of cancer”, also, “I appreciated learning that I can be proactive in trying to prevent breast cancer”.
The event was sponsored by Duxbury Grid Iron Football Club, Mirbeau Inn and Spa, Plymouth Country Club Women’s Golf Association, and Diane’s Gift, a specialty resource center and shop at the Jordan Hospital Club Cancer Center.
