Jordan Hospital Physician Receives Psychiatrist of the Year Award
Dr. Mendoza honored for his contributions to the field of mental health on the South Shore
Jordan Hospital is pleased to announce that Chief of Psychiatry, Alejandro Mendoza, MD, has been elected to receive the 2013 Psychiatrist of the Year Award on behalf of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Massachusetts. The annual award recognizes a psychiatrist who has made outstanding contributions within the communities they serve while demonstrating that they are an outstanding clinician who shows empathy and understanding for their patients.
To receive this award, Dr. Mendoza was nominated by Phyllis Burns, a NAMI Plymouth affiliate. The Planning Committee for the NAMI National Convention then selected him as the recipient. Phyllis said,
“The Plymouth Area has a treasure of which few are aware, unless you or your loved one has been treated at the Jordan Hospital Senior Behavioral Health Center in Plymouth. The treasure is Chief of Psychiatry at Jordan Hospital, Dr. Alejandro Mendoza. Not only is he a Board certified psychiatrist and neurologist, he is an expert in psycho pharmacology, making him truly an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and dementia in the adult population. He believes in the support, education and understanding of family members. I am honored to nominate him for consideration as NAMI MA Psychiatrist of the Year 2013.”
Dr. Mendoza completed his residency at Harvard Medical School and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine. He has subspecialty board certifications in Geriatric Psychiatry, Psychosomatic Medicine and Addiction Psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
