New BirthPlace Launched at Jordan Hospital
February 28, 2013

The BirthPlace at Jordan Hospital is pleased to announce the grand re-opening of the BirthPlace after more than six months of renovations while maintaining an active inpatient unit. To celebrate the grand re-opening, an Open House Celebration will take place on Thursday, February 28, from 4-6 pm.

Renovations include: new Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP) suites, upgraded Water Birth Room, Nursery, sleep sofas for dads, and new equipment. The BirthPlace is the only maternity unit south of Boston and Cape Cod to offer women 24/7 laborist and midwifery care as well as personalized delivery options.

Giving parents-to-be control over as many aspects of their journey as possible is the mission of the BirthPlace at Jordan Hospital. “We believe patients deserve a voice in their birthing experience,” says BirthPlace Medical Director and Laborist Dr. Brigid McCue. “When our patients are planning for the birth, they can opt to see an obstetrician or midwife at any of our outpatient Jordan OB/GYN and Midwifery offices in Hanover, Duxbury, Plymouth, or Sandwich. When it’s time to deliver, there’s a seamless transition to the BirthPlace.

The renovations to the BirthPlace at Jordan Hospital included input from BirthPlace staff, nurses, midwives, physicians, and patients. The new BirthPlace features a summer cottage theme in all the patient rooms with wainscoting, tranquil wall colors, and seaside artwork.

In addition to the renovations and expanded services, the BirthPlace also offers the region’s only CenteringPregnancy® Program. CenteringPregnancy is an exciting way for women and their families to get prenatal care. Women spend more time with their healthcare provider and with other pregnant women, which gives them a chance to learn more about pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. Check-ups, support, and education all take place in a group setting at the various Jordan OB/GYN and Midwifery offices.

By providing innovative, patient-centered prenatal and birthing care in a calming environment, Jordan Hospital is on the leading edge of providing what’s best for families as they plan for and deliver their newest member of their family.

“At the BirthPlace, it’s all about the moms, babies, and families,” says Dr. McCue.
