The “Women’s Health Symposium: Go for the Gold” will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at Indian Pond Country Club in Kingston, MA. Shannon Miller will discuss her courageous battle with ovarian cancer and provide recommendations for living well. Go for the Gold Event Information The symposium will feature a panel of Jordan Hospital physicians who will discuss and answer participant questions on how to live a healthier lifestyle. The panel includes Breast Surgeon Lisa Tito, MD; OB/GYN Brigid McCue, MD; and Chiropractor Talia Fenoglietto, DC. Additionally, there will be speakers on nutrition, physical activity and stress reduction. “We are honored to host Shannon Miller for this important health symposium by women and for women,” says Jordan Hospital Breast Center Medical Director Dr. Lisa Tito. “We encourage all women who have questions about their health and who want to take charge of their health to attend the Women’s Health Symposium.” Shannon Miller is the Most Decorated American Gymnast, male or female, in history. She is the only US gymnast to win two World All-Around Titles. Her tally of five medals (2 silver, 3 bronze) at the 1992 Olympics was the most medals won by a US athlete. At the 1996 Olympic Games, she led the “Magnificent Seven” to the US Women’s first ever Team Gold and for the first time for any American gymnast, she captured Gold on the Balance Beam. After battling with her own weight and confidence after retiring from Olympic competition Shannon has made it her mission to help other women achieve a healthy and fit lifestyle. In 2011, after a diagnosis of a Germ Cell Tumor, a type of ovarian cancer, she has become a passionate advocate for women to get their regular exams and screenings. Through her personal stories of trial and triumph Shannon shares with her audience the idea of “balance” in our efforts to be successful and live a healthy and fit lifestyle. She brings her never back down attitude to her professional life as well as her health. Rockland Trust is the event sponsor. Media sponsors include: Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine, Gatehouse Media, South Shore Women’s Journal, WATD-FM, Wicked Local, and Lighthouse Media Solutions.
