CenteringPregnancy has been proven to increase patient satisfaction and improve health outcomes
Jordan Hospital’s BirthPlace and Jordan OB/GYN & Midwifery, in affiliation with Centering Healthcare Institute, is pleased to announce that it is the first hospital and obstetrical practice South of Boston and Cape Cod to offer CenteringPregnancy, group prenatal care that reduces wait times, increases patient satisfaction, and leads to improved health outcomes. Pregnant women coming to Jordan OB/GYN & Midwifery’s Hanover location will now have the opportunity to receive their prenatal care in groups of 8-12 women with similar due dates. Groups will meet each month—initially twice, then monthly, with their care provider—which allows extra time for learning about pregnancy/childbirth/child care and getting to know one another.
Each group session, which lasts two hours, includes a private physical assessment of each woman. In addition to time for snacks and socializing, the group discusses topics important to the participants. Women have opportunities to discuss their experiences and challenges, working together with their provider to find good solutions, and having fun getting to know each other.
“Jordan Hospital’s BirthPlace and Jordan OB/GYN & Midwifery continue to re-shape how prenatal care and education is offered to women in our service area,” says Brigid McCue, MD, medical director of the BirthPlace at Jordan Hospital and Jordan OB/GYN & Midwifery. “Centering pregnancy is one example of how we are responding to the prenatal care needs of our patients and we’re excited to offer it at our Hanover location.”
HOW TO REGISTER

CenteringPregnancy was developed in 1993 by Sharon Schindler Rising, CNM, MSN, and is now used by sites all over the country. Research shows it to be a very effective way to receive prenatal care. Participating in CenteringPregnancy group care allows most patients ten times more time with their provider, a community of friends, an opportunity to actively participate in health decisions, plenty of time to discuss questions, and an enjoyable, fun prenatal visit. It eliminates the need for extra classes and waiting for appointments to start.
