Bequests

The motivation to give a legacy gift to BID-Plymouth comes from many places, among them an inspired moment, an attachment to the cause, and the understanding that our community hospital is the right, the responsibility, and the reflection of that community. For others, it is simply the desire to help, and the understanding that supporting our community hospital offers a wider reach of care.

One of the easiest, most meaningful and enduring vehicles of legacy support is to include a bequest to Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth in your will. By remembering BID-Plymouth with a bequest in your will, you can impact your community’s healthcare in a way that endures far beyond your lifetime.

A bequest may be structured in a number of ways. You may leave BID-Plymouth:

  • A specific dollar amount or specific holding of your estate;
  • A percentage of your estate;
  • A portion or all of the remainder of your estate following the satisfaction of other
  • bequests, or
  • A combination of the above.

The following testamentary language is recommended when preparing your will:

For an unrestricted bequest:

“I give to Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth, a Massachusetts charitable organization, the sum of $__________ (or, in the case of property, describe) to be used for the benefit of Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth in such a manner as determined by the Directors of Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth.”

For an restricted bequest:

“I give to Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth, a Massachusetts charitable corporation, the sum of $____________ (or in the case of property, describe), to be (specify use – facility expansion, equipment purchases, education, etc.). If in the future, the Directors of Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth decide that the bequest cannot be usefully applied for such a purpose, they may choose to direct my bequest to another similar purpose.”

An outright charitable bequest through your will to Beth Israel Deaconess - Plymouth is not subject to federal estate or gift taxes, and is deductible in calculating your taxable estate. There is no limit on that deduction. Be sure to check any applicable state laws for restrictions that may apply.

As with all forms of planned giving, professional advice is important. BID-Plymouth will be pleased to work with you, or with you and your advisors, in developing a plan tailored specifically to your desires and requirements.
